Top garden design events for late summer
Get out and about this season with top talks, garden visits, shows and seminars
Young talent will be celebrated once again at the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park as the three finalists in the 2017 RHS Young Garden Designer of the Year competition battle it out for the coveted prize. This year the contestants are creating designs that fuse the garden and office. Anca Panait, 27, from Glasgow, is creating a working environment that connects a standard office with the outdoors to provide a space for observation and for privacy. The woodland planting of her ‘Prospect & Refuge’ garden offers enclosure and escape from the outside world.
London-based Jake Curley’s ‘Business & Pleasure’ garden is inspired by New York’s highline and the city’s rooftops. The 25-year-old is designing a functional office space within a natural setting, which aims to enhance creativity and happiness throughout the working day. The third finalist, Ula Maria Bujauskaite, 24, from Northampton has designed ‘Studio Unwired’, an outdoor take on hot-desking (below). The RHS Flower Show Tatton Park takes place on 19-23 July 2017; visit www.rhs.org.uk/tatton for further details.
The estate at Combermere Abbey, which lies on the Cheshire-Shropshire border, is opening on selected Wednesdays this summer. It will be supporting various charities with the proceeds, including Cancer Research UK and local groups such as Attend, Friends of Whitchurch Hospital and The Wingate Centre. The gardens (above) will be open from 1-5pm on 26 July, 30 August and 27 September. www.combermereabbey.co.uk
