Swift designs new Horatio’s Garden

Joe Swift is creating a new space for Stoke Mandeville in Bucks

Charity Horatio’s Garden, which creates and cares for gardens in NHS spinal injury centres, has commissioned designer and TV presenter Joe Swift MSGD to design its latest garden for Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Buckinghamshire.

The garden will provide a sanctuary for patients and their families, and includes a social area for gatherings and events, private areas for peace and privacy, a garden room enabling patients to use the garden year round, a garden therapy area, a greenhouse and a children’s play area.

Swift’s garden is being built now and will open later this year, and the charity is currently recruiting a Head Gardener to maintain the space.

It is also looking for volunteers to help organise a wide range of creative and therapeutic activities, from tea and cakes to garden therapy, music, meditation and art. If you are interested in getting involved, visit www.horatiosgarden.org.uk and follow the link to ‘Join the team’.
